It’s Friday. You’ve successfully navigated another week, and now it’s time to shift your focus from wrapping up the present to planning your high-impact actions for the coming week. Use this moment to set yourself up for immediate success on Monday. Stop thinking about what you should do and commit to executing these five high-impact tasks.
𝟭. 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁
Don't just apply blindly. Identify your top three "Dream Roles" and your top three "Target Companies." Spend 60% of your application time tailoring materials specifically for these six targets, and 40% on volume applications.
𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Create a list of 6 specific jobs/companies this weekend and dedicate your initial application efforts to them next week.
𝟮. 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀
Networking is about gathering information, not just asking for a job. Identify two people currently working in a role or company you admire. Reach out with a genuine, concise request for a 15-minute virtual coffee to learn about their career path, not to ask for an opening.
𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Draft and schedule two tailored informational interview requests to be sent out Monday morning.
𝟯. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀
Job descriptions evolve rapidly. Dedicate one hour this week to an online course (LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, etc.) or a deep dive into an industry article to gain one new, specific, marketable skill (e.g., a specific Excel function, a concept in AI, or a new social media strategy).
𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Spend 60 minutes actively learning one new, relevant skill next week and note how it applies to your target roles.
𝟰. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲-𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Pick a role you were recently rejected for or one that feels slightly out of reach. Print the job description. Highlight every required skill or task you don't have. For each gap, list a specific project, course, or volunteer activity you could do this month to close that gap.
𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Spend 45 minutes this weekend reverse-engineering a challenging job description to identify concrete skill-building tasks for next week.
𝟱. 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗤𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮
To beat procrastination, remove the emotional component of applying. Set a non-negotiable, daily minimum standard. Whether it’s 2 tailored applications, 5 networking comments, or 1 hour of research, make it measurable and manageable.
𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Commit to a small, quantifiable job search activity every single day next week, no matter what.
Commit to these 5 Actions to Launch Your Job Search Next Week, and successfully launch your job search momentum this coming week! Have a productive weekend!
